How Network Equipment is Kept up to Date

Modified on Fri, 26 Jun at 5:26 PM

Your network equipment is automatically monitored and updated to ensure reliability and security.

What It Is

  • Network devices (such as routers and switches) receive regular updates during their lifecycle
  • Updates improve performance, stability, and security
  • Equipment is actively monitored by IT

What It Means for You

  • Most updates happen in the background
  • You typically do not need to take any action
  • In most cases, brief network interruptions will occur

What You Need to Know

  • Some updates may require equipment to restart or reload
  • During these times, your internet connection may briefly disconnect
  • Updates are usually scheduled to minimize disruptions
    • Update scheduled are communicated no later than 24 hours in advance
    • Changes to proposed network updates are accepted, and must be done no less than 4 hours prior to the proposed start time

What IT Manages

  • Monitoring network performance and health
  • Applying updates and security patches
  • Scheduling and communicating maintenance to reduce user impact
